Paper Canvas – Canvas Paper

Paper Canvas – Canvas Paper

Out of friendship and artistic solidarity, the idea of bringing photography and painting together and creating a joint exhibition was born. Sven’s professional background meets Jess’ unconventional approach. Trivial objects become a motif and emotions are expressively unfolded on canvas, a combination of painting and digital and analogue photography.

Both are not aiming for a delimitation of these art forms, but rather for a combination and exchange. Elements of colour and light, on baryte and canvas, unite to a symbiosis of two forms of representation. These two directions, each of which deals with the events of the world in its own specific way, lend each other new visibility.

Bio Sven:Sven deals with random situations consisting of objects assembled by people. He is fascinated by capturing the unintentional aesthetic composition of objects and the touches of the environment.

He transforms things that would otherwise only have a practical, everyday purpose through their separate existence, and which would actually only be stored, neglected objects, into pictures, and the handling of the colours in his pictures gives them a further resonance, thereby suspending the everydayness of the objects.

Bio Jess:Born in Brandenburg Havel in 1986, the artist moved to the Baltic coast to Kiel, Leeds in the UK, Los Angeles and Atlanta in the United States, before finally settling in Berlin. As a passionate traveller, she moves at the intersections of social issues of class, race and gender in culture and politics. She studied at the FU and HU in Berlin and studied International Relations at the University of California and the University of Leeds, and her paintings reflect a strong activism and awareness of contemporary issues.

Her paintings are usually the result of an energetic situation on the one hand and naivety in dealing with art on the other. She captures the symbiosis of this moment on canvas. She chooses painting as a means of expression, as the transfer of energy from idea to product is the quickest way to become visible.
